Secure Erase TM

The advantage of the MPTapes deletion process, “Secure Erase”, is that not only the LTO/9840/9940 cartridge data is erased but the servo tracks are erased as well. Thus ensuring a complete, total and unrecoverable data erase. Upon request an additional process can be used to write NEW servo tracks allowing cartridges to be reused as a refurbished cartridge. A refurbishment time stamp is place on the tape header thus eliminating any confusion between new and refurbished cartridges. Additional scanning can determine the quality Level of each erased cartridge.(Level score >85) This means that now cartridges can be reused, which in a conventional erasing process was not possible because the servo track could not be re-written.

Banks, data centers and government agencies as well as all companies with sensitive data, who are using LTO/9840/9940 cartridges, can benefit from this service and save costs, as the erase time compared to a conventional deletion in the drive, much shorter and the expensive new purchase of cartridges may be saved through possible reuse.

The conventional method for erasing and overwriting data can leave original data remnants on the cartridge. This data could possibly be recovered by the wrong people.

The delete components in the Secure Erase TM construction generate a magnetic field which is many times stronger than the magnetic field of the recording heads of the drive. Secure Erase TM deletes the deep level of magnetic tape and makes the data completely and totally unrecoverable.
This means the safe, reliable erasure of data, either in our own repair shop or at customer sites.
Independent and leading data recovery and disaster companies have confirmed no data can be recovered after a cartridge has been processed using the Secure Erase TM.

Reuse of erased LTO tapes

Most of the cartridges that are no longer required are being mechanically destroyed. This type of demolition is expensive and not environmentally friendly. The technology of the Secure Erase TM allows an alternative that is environmentally friendly and saves money as well. The Secure Erased cartridges may be used again and again depending upon the quality of each cartridge after erasing! Instead of purchasing new cartridges, the original owner may use them again in different or the same applications.
